The first ever Tennis Family (Davis) Cup was held on Sunday March 17th 2024. Six family teams participated in a two-group format, the winners of each group going into the final. The teams were made up of members of YC&AC with an age limit of 11 years or under for the children (and no age limit for the parents!).
Combinations of two parents/one child, one parent/two children or one parent/one child were involved in a series of singles and mixed doubles matches. Six children and six adults participated in an afternoon of fun and magical tennis helped by an unrelenting swirling spring wind. The day ended with a gift distribution in Mollison’s (each child receiving gifts from Babolat) and the winners receiving a cup – Team Sakabe defeating Team Masuko in the final.
Congratulations to our winners and to everyone who participated. It was a most enjoyable afternoon and well worth the effort. It was wonderful to see parents and their children playing together. Let’s hope this inaugural event will feature in the annual tennis calendar for years to come.
