Morgan Stanley Charity Tennis Tournament

Words: Dennis Stanworth (Tennis Committee)

Despite a postponement on June 3rd and a delayed start on June 10th due to unrelenting downpours, the annual Morgan Stanley Charity Tennis Tournament, hosted by the YC&AC and organized by Morgan Stanley, eventually went ahead.
This fund-raiser was last held in 2019 due to Covid interventions and so it was a special welcomed return to the courts this year for eight tennis teams: BNP Paribas, Clifford Chance, Linklaters Tokyo, Morgan Stanley Teams A and B, Team Freshfields, UBS Tennis Team (banks and law firms) and YC&AC.

It was a pleasure to partake and meet and greet new faces associated with the banking and law industries and enjoy time together both on and off court. The 70+ players mixed well and shared in some exciting tennis, all in the name of ‘fundraising’ – raising money (quite a huge amount was raised) for the charity organization Second Harvest https://2hj.org/english/, a Food Bank that strengthens the food lifeline for those families/persons who are less fortunate than ourselves. This made the occasion even more special and meaningful.

In terms of the overall results, YC&AC came 3rd, UBS Union Bank of Switzerland came 2nd and Morgan Stanley A team came in first place. YC&AC played nine matches and won 7 (Morgan Stanley B 2-1, BNP Paribas 2-1 and Linklaters Tokyo 3-0). Congratulations to everyone for a fine effort, not least the nine members of the YC&AC team who rose to the occasion with gusto. Thank you all.
And sincere thanks are also extended to our Sports Operations including Yusuke, Ryo and Lina, to our awesome hardworking ground staff for preparing the clay courts, to the F&B for welcoming and serving the many tennis players who used Mollison’s before, during and after the tournament and last but not least to the Board of Directors for sponsoring the YC&AC team for this event. Sincere appreciation. Morgan Stanley are already making plans for next year, again to be held at the YC&AC. Can’t wait -bring it on!
